Common stain to detect mucins
Application: Alcian blue is used for the demonstration of acid mucins, which can be produced by several types of epithelial and connective tissue tumors. Acid mucins also play role in collagen diseases and early stages of atherosclerosis. Alcian Blue pH 1 staining kit is highly acidic and is used to identify, by light microscopy, weakly and strongly sulfated acid mucopolysaccharides (sulphomucins) in paraffin tissue sections.
N.B!: The clinical interpretation of any staining, or its absence, should be complemented by morphological studies and proper controls, and should be evaluated within the context of the patient’s clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. All reagents have been optimally prepared for use and require no mixing or diluting.
