Hematoxylin and eosin stain or haematoxylin and eosin stain is one of the principal tissue stains used in histology
Application: A nuclear staining solution containing, hematoxylin and ferric chloride used in many non – routine techniques (special stains – Van Gieson, Masson trichrome). It resists decolonization in acidic staining solutions. Ferric Chloride is a strong oxidizer, so it serves both as a mordant and oxidizer for Wiegert’s Hematoxylin.
N.B!: The clinical interpretation of any staining, or its absence, should be complemented by morphological studies and proper controls, and should be evaluated within the context of the patient’ s clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist.
